| The Coulter/Miller Log Home Project A new log home package is always a big thrill but this one has been most rewarding. It started while we were at the Indiana State Fair in August watching our two boys; Tanner & Tate show their pigs. Tonia got a call from a general contractor in Ft Wayne, IN asking that we meet with them on a new log home. Mike later called and spoke with Kurt, the project manager, to get some details and found that they were working on a project to replace a log home that had been burnt in an electrical fire. The home owners were a young couple that had only been married a few months and had purchased this existing log home. One evening while the young Mr. Miller was off at work his wife was home sleeping. She soon was awakened by the smell of smoke and heat from flames. In all the confusion she proceeded to stand up and make her way to an exit. What she didn’t realize at the time was that she took the wrong path for a safe escape. She was able to avoid the flames but when she stood up she put her upper body into an intense heat zone causing severe 3rd degree burns to her upper arms, shoulders, and face. She did escape but the injuries were severe enough that she was put into an induced coma while her doctors worked to save her life. We are glad to report that she is recovering well but has and will endure reconstructive surgery to repair the burn damage. We were able to meet with the general contractor and Mr. Miller to work out the details to replace their damaged log home with a new Honest Abe Log Home. The general contractor asked for dry-in labor so we made arrangements to have our friend and builder, Doug McGraw with Turn Key Builders, complete the dry in. The pictures to follow will show you what the home looked like after the fire and what it looks like as it is being built. Their new home is going to be beautiful.
